Merhaba! Welcome to Istanbul

Istanbul was founded as Byzantion in 660 BC, to then become Constantinople as the capital of the Roman Empire. It has always been a crucial hub, for its position across two continents and across the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.

Today, Istanbul is one of the most populous cities in the world, with a cosmopolitan population and the coexistence of three religions. It’s the only city in the world that spans two continents. We suggest that you book a few extra days when you come on a program, to enjoy this city, its friendly people and great food.

Get there by car

Istanbul is connected to many European cities by highways and there are two main borders to enter the country, Kapikule from Bulgaria and Ipsala from Greece. Traffic here is quite chaotic, so we usually recommend using public transportation and taxis. The Metro service is usually very quick, reliable and safe.

Get there by plane

The main airport is Istanbul Atatürk Airport, well connected to the city center by subway (line M1A), bus and coach services, coastal road, D-100 international road and Trans-European Motorway. It’s the second airport with the most destinations worldwide, so it should be quite easy for you to get here.
